About Me

Hello, I am a trained Montessori teacher & Graphic Designer.

I first became interested in Cold Porcelain, commonly known as "ceramic", in the Middle Eastern country of U.A.E. when I moved to Sharjah.  My introduction to this art form happened when I attended a comprehensive 16-week course with a local lady who was teaching this art at no cost to anyone who bought the supplies from her store. I then came in contact with Lindy Roxburough with whom I took up some sugar-craft classes. She is a highly talented lady in the art of cake decorating who had taken lessons from Nicholas Lodge and Tony Warren. I was introduced to sugarcraft by Lindy where I learned the detailed techniques of sugarcraft and was encouraged to start teaching.  Shortly thereafter, in January of 1998, we moved to Abu Dhabi, where I continued my interest in Cold Porcelain & Sugarcraft.

In Abu Dhabi, I was invited by the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation for demonstrating my art and was asked to conduct classes at the foundation for interested students.

In the January 2000 issue of the Gulf News and Itihaad (a local newspaper) , I was featured in the 'Craft Corner' page, standing at the booth that I held at the WIAD ladies association where it awarded Best Booth.  In the UAE I demonstrated and participated in various charity events at several local clubs and ladies associations, both in Dubai/Sharjah as well as Abu Dhabi. Due to the large local interest in ceramic flowers (cold porcelain) I was persuaded to use my techniques in various forms. Flowers made in sugar or ceramics are virtually indistinguishable from each other, with the added advantage that the ceramic flowers are not as fragile; from then on I pursued working with mostly ceramic paste. In addition, I had conducted various classes for 3D paper-tole, Silk Painting, Glass Painting, 3D embroidery, Napkin folding & various children's classes.

We moved to Canada in 2004 & have settled in Waterloo, Ontario since.
